How to be Seen as an Expert in Your Niche
Wondering how to be seen as an expert in your niche? One of the easiest ways to be seen as an expert is to consistently show up and add value by sharing great content. Let’s walk through several creative ways that you can do this without having to constantly create new content.
How to Be Seen As An Expert By Sharing What You Are Learning
The biggest challenge in sharing your expertise: consistency. It can be challenging to constantly put out great content for your audience. Or, am I the only one that struggles with this whole consistency thing?
There’s one powerful shift that helped me get more consistent.
One of my favorite ways to do that is to simply think about what you are consuming. If we have spent a nano-second together, you know that reading is one of my favorite things to do. Sharing what I am reading is an easy way to add value.
Here are several ways that you can create lead-generating and relationship-building content without having to create from scratch.
You can share:
- A quick tip or insight from a book you are reading
- An insightful quote from an interesting podcast
- Key take-aways from a workshop or event you attended
- Time stamps from a video with ideas that your audience can apply
On vacation this summer, I plowed through Simon Sinek’s latest book, The Infinite Game. Here’s an example of the post I shared with one of the big ideas that stood out for me:
How to Be Seen As an Expert in Your Niche By Answering Questions
Creating great content for your audience begins by focusing on the questions your audience is trying to answer. There are tons of podcasts, videos, blogs, and books you can consume to answer these questions for your audience. Make a list of questions your people would ask related to your area of expertise. Then, source related content that answers those questions.
You can set a Google alert to let you know when new content has been released related to the key questions you help your audience answer. When you set up an alert, Google will let you know when new content is available online related to this topic.
You can also use the Google search drop down menu to give you ideas for related questions you can explore with your audience. For example, if you type in “How to market?”, notice all the different questions you could relate to this one area of focus.
How to Be Seen as The Expert in Your Niche By Synthesizing
It’s easy to think that you need to create original content to create value. But, there is already a ton of great content online that you can leverage to position yourself as the expert in your niche.
You can show up as an expert by synthesizing what is already out there and making sense of it for your audience. You can help your audience by:
- Reviewing and connecting the ideas between different books
- Creating a “best of” list of podcast episodes for your audience from different podcasters
- Reviewing a Youtuber’s channel and sharing links to best episodes with timestamps for quick viewing
- Drawing a mind map with application ideas from your favorite books on one topic
The only thing I had to do was make a subtle shift in how I learned. While consuming new content, make notes of the big ideas with the intent of sharing it later. I do this in my journal and I pull it out when I sit down to write social or blog posts.
Putting It Into Action
- Make a list of the questions that your audience wants answered
- Identify what you are consuming and learning that you can share out with your audience
It can be easier to consistently share content that positions you as an expert in your niche. Sharing what you are learning is a fun and easy way to create great content and grow your community.
